I installed Western digital software specifically to get a detachable drive to work.I still am unable to open the driver. Its a My pasport driver. I have the serial number if that would be helpful. The serial number is C118352.
Serial number means nothing to us. Presume this is an external drive that connects by USB. In general terms these are plug-n-play and you do not need any special software installed in order to access them. What if anything exactly happens when you connect the drive to a USB port? Does the drive spin up and is it recognized? Does Windows allocate it a drive letter? I'm not familiar with Win7 but there should be a disk management interface in your system admin area where you can check if the disk is at least recognized. If it is recognized, do you get any error message when you try to open the disk to read it's contents? What is the history of the external drive? Does it work on other PCs? Is it new? Did it previously work and suddenly cease?
