Hi,
Recently I cannot eject my cdrom and the light is on constantly. Cannot find the cdrom drive in my computer as well. Is is a loose cable or shld i try reinstalling the drivers (problem is I don't know the model)
Pls Help. Thanks

On most CD/Rom drives, a burning light indicates that something is in the drive. Power down your computer properly, and then get yourself a decent sized paperclip.
If you see a tiny little hole in the front of the CD rom drive, then that's exactly for that purpose - and most CD/rom drives have a tiny little hole like that.
With the power off, insert the paper clip (you might have to unbend it somewhat) perfectly straight, and push gently until you can feel the door try to slide open. Sometimes it'll open just enough for you to get your fingernail in there, to pull it open the rest of the way on your own. If it doesn't want to open at all, keep on "fiddling around" with that paperclip. This almost always works.
Hey Intel, AMD rulez!

While that will get your CD out, it won't solve the problem. Is BIOS not recognizing the drive or is Windows not recognizing it? It could very well be a backwards cable or one connected improperly somehow.

Windows as well as Bios is not detecting it.
How I check if it is connected properly (not
gd with h/w) Thanks

If the computer isn't even detecting it in the bios, then there's either something seriously wrong, or the drive function for your CD/Rom was somehow disabled in your bios.
After restarting, immediately try to enter your bios with either the DEL key or the F1 key. DEL is more commonly used. You'll get a double paned DOS like window. On the left, check the first two lines by highlighting with your arrow keys, and then depressing the ENTER key. Make sure that all of your IDE drive channels are set to AUTO. Don't change anything else, if you don't know what you're doing.
Also check inside of your computer. If the CD/Rom won't open or close, then that's because it's either dead, or there's no power plugged into it, inside the case.
If the CD/Rom opens and closes, meaning that you have power, but the computer or bios refuses to acknowledge it, then there's again either somerthing wrong with the drive, or the grey ribbon cable is not attached to it properly. Doublecheck the ribbon cable. Gently, pull it off, and then push it back on - all the way. If you'te looking at the rear of the drive, and it's in a tower case, then the RED STRIPE should be on the right side.
There's also a small, plastic jumper to the left, also in the back of the CD/Rom dive. Normally, that jumper is in the middle of the six pins, for the CD/Rom to be running as a SLAVE drive, off the same cable that has your hard drive attached to it. If the CD/Rom drive is running off the second IDE chanel with a second cable, then everything is probably already set up correctly. In that case, the drive may have something wrong with it. Hope this helps.
