Cannot connect computer to network

Netgear Wnr2000 wireless router
May 8, 2010 at 16:20:18
Specs: Windows Vista
I cannot connect to the above router and have no clue why not. Every time I try to connect, I get the "Diagnose the problem" or "Connect to a different network" messages. When I try to diagnose, it says for me to "View wireless network settings for my network" or "View available networks". Nothing is fixing the issue though. What do I need to do? Please help!

Has the wireless connection in the router been set up, enabled and configured with security?

This is usually done by accessing the router admin interface via a wired lan connection and log in using router admin ID and password. Do you have the manual for the router and have you read it?
