I have an Intel D865GLC motherboard (P4 3.0) that supports both PATA and SATA. My existing hard drive is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 120GB Ultra ATA/100. I am considering buying a Western Digital WD3200JB/PB as a second hard drive. Can I use both the EIDE and a Serial ATA hard drive together on this system? Should the SATA HD be the primary drive? Can further SATA drives be added later?
Cheers........... Stez

Yes you can run them both together, but not on the same cable. You know that yourself.
In the bios it should give you the option of enabling the sata controller. The number of SATA drives will be governed by the number of connectors on the board.
There are no jumper setting for SATA drives at all they all run as masters. The bios controls which will be the boot drive.
But if you have the os On the PATA drive all you need to do is make sure that the boot order in the bios is set to HDD0.
But what I would recommend is when and if you get the SATA drive reload the os onto that drive and use it as the boot drive. You will get much better performance that way.
And just change the boot order in the bios to SATA and all done. And you can use your PATA drive for other purposes.
Hope that helps
