I have a new EPoX Nforce board that runs great, but when I boot it cold everything is dead (no fans, lights, etc) on the first try. Only after turning it on/off at the powersupply a few times & then pressing the power switch will it finally boot normally. It warm boots fine. It has a 400 watt antec and an 80 MM Coolermaster fan that is powered directly off the powersupply (not via the motherboard) but it has a separate plug (with just one contact) for the motherboard to detect the fan. Could the problem be related to that? Thanks

I don't think that is the problem. My system has 3 case fans and they all go thru the power supply. My only guess could be something is wrong with the power supply.

I hope it's something simple like that. Only thing is the previous motherboard was running off this same powersupply and it didn't do that. I've kept it running most of the time though.

Actually I was thinking maybe the board doesn't see the fan at first and so doesn't allow it to boot?

The fans don't have anything to do with the system booting. You can check the connection of the power supply cable with the motherboard, if its in there correctly. If possible try hooking up the board to another power supply so see if you get the same results. I had an older PC, that worked fine, I turned it off for like an hour and when I tried to turn it on again, didn't come on. Power supply went out just like that.
