I have a computer with plenty of RAM, processor speed, and hard disk space but it runs really slow. I have no viruses or spyware, I've deleted all temp files, ran a defrag, and ran scandisk w/ no problems. I've cleaned up many computers and I've never had one so unresponsive. I had an electrician test the A/C from the power strip and he said that it showed about 95 volts and should normally be at least 110. Does anyone know if this could slow down a computer?

Thanks,

Lack of AC power will not slow a computer down - it will either run or it wont. There is no in-between as far as AC power goes.

Voltage regulators in the power supply are designed to accommodate fluctuations in AC voltage, after all AC is doing that all the time. If the voltage gets to low for the power supply to handle, it will just cut itself off - at least a well designed power supply will.

I would look elsewhere for slowdowns.

You say you have no viruses or spy-ware. How do you know?

Do you have an anti-virus application and spy-ware application along with a firewall.

Although 95 volts should run your computer it is quite low. Did you check any other outlets in the house? Your safety factor in a brownout is probably about 5 volts.

Actually, I don't have the answer for this, and I've got considerable electronics history behind me, but I can tell you this----

95 volts, if that is actually true, is WAY WAY WAY too low for a modern household, not just for computers, but for any OTHER devices you've got, such as your refrigerator and so on.

I'm absolutely sure I have no virus/spyware. I've ran Spybot, Ad-aware, CWshreder, Bazooka Scanner, and a couple of other anti-spyware programs. I have ran my antivirus software as well as an online check. All software have been updated to the latest releases.

I know this doesn't make logical sense according to Stuart but I exchanged power strips and the pc seems to run alot better. Who knows?
