can i use USB DVD writer on DVD Rom

i really want to copy DVD's on my laptop but it is only a DVD rom. can i connect an external dvd witer to my laptop? or do i get an internal writer. or is there nothing i can do. please need help....

There are external writers available.

Below are two links. The first is for 5.25” external USB enclosures. The second is for CD/DVD burner drives. In both cases there are both interfaces available. IDE or SATA. You need to match the enclosure and the drive to have the same internal connection type. All the enclosures listed are USB external connection.

Read the reviews before buying.

Another possibility might be for you to upgrade your drive in the laptop. You would need to do more checking before trying that. The external route will work fine. Just not very portable is all.

In case you are wondering: If you replace your DVD-ROM with a DVD/CD-RW drive you should still be able to copy DVDs. The burner program can copy the DVD to the hard drive, and then burn it back to the drive. Not as efficient as a direct copy, but ...
