Not a chance. DSL uses an digital Modem. Dial-up uses an analogue modem. Two completely different animals.

Why would you want to use dial-up if you have DSL available?

No, but if you got DSL then used an VoIP phone (Like Skyp) and connected an old 56K modem through it sure. Wouldn't that just be crazy.

Actually I think Skype have anticipated a crazy situation like that and prevent connection to anything below 56kbs speeds.

Really, so that means you can not run Faxes through Skype. I personally do not use Skype.

I had asked about using a DSL modem for dialup. I am not new at this but havent learned a heck of a lot about computers in the yrs I have had it, ok? I do mostly emails and some searches for info.
I acquired this computer from my daughter and she had only used it a few months. It did not have a modem. I went with ATT and it was not any faster than the dial up that I had before, so I thot perhaps if I went back..............Well, anyway to make a long story short? I decided this weekend, that I need to send my computer to the shop. But I do appreciate all your input, especially liked the one from THX1138 that said 'no'. Man of few words. LOL.

Why would you want to send a fax through Skype?

DSL, Skype and everything connected to it is a digital system.

Fax is an analogue system - a system that even predates computers.
