What is "basic internet that plugs into my computer" ?

If it is a cable broadband connection that you have connected by Cat5e cable from the modem to ethernet port on your PC then the answer is yes. You buy a wireless router. Connect from modem to router WAN port then from router LAN port tp PC.
Make sure the router you buy has 4 LAN ports in addition to the wireless capability.

The router manual will explain how to configure it. This presumes you are on a normal Cable or DSL internet service and not in a college dorm or apartment complex where the internet service is supplied with strings attached.
