I am in the process of upgrading to USB 2 via a PCI card upgrade, i'm thinking of getting an external large 60 or 80GB external USB drive and using that as a main drive.
Is it possible to install an operating system say Windows XP on this new usb hard drive and boot up on the usb drive, using this as my main drive in the bios.
My motherboard chipset is the VIA K266A with the latest drivers. (K266B version)

Although it is possible it greatly depends on your hardware. Check that your bios is up to date, and then load your setup menu when u reboot. (usually pressing del on boot). Now make sure that if u have options like allow USB in ms-dos or things like that, enable them (yes, its the return of vodoo programming!). Now check your boot config, it usuallu is : 1st-floppy 2nd-cd-rom 3rd-HDD Load other available devices? Enable/Disable (put this on enable)
Now change 2rd to USB HDD, and hopefully it should work... Good luck Spinal
