Can DVDs be played on CD Drives?

Can I play DVDs on my CD drive using a codec or plug in or anything of that nature? If not, where can I find relatively cheap DVD drives for laptops? Thanks for any help in advance.

DVD's will not play on a CD drive. The light beam may be much thinner for DVD's, but I may be wrong. DVD drives and DVD/CDRW drives can be found at the two auction sites.... www.ebay.com for USA and www.ebay.co.uk for Europe

Not at all!! As for buying a dvd drive...It would be alot cheaper for you to buy a firewire or usb 2.0 drive instead of a made for notebook one. Also not only is the beam for dvd's smaller but it's also blue.
