I have an Intel server mobo (2, actually). I had been trying to a couple weeks to flash the bios to see if it would read the new RAM I bought. But the darn thing kept telling me to insert a floppy disk when there was already one in there. Thinking I had a bad mobo I ordered the same one so I would only have to move my components over and not have to do a re-install of the OS. Well, the new one had the same problems. I brought it to PC Club and they tried a different floppy and that one worked. They couldn't flash the BIOS either (don't worry, I just solved that one today). I bought a new drive and installed it, and guess what? It didn't work. I swapped it with the one in my other machine, and that one worked. The one that didn't work now works in my old computer. But today, the drive stopped working. I went out an bought another drive so I could at least update the BIOS. The thing is, is this just a run of bad luck, or could the mobo be frying floppy drives? I still have the old mobo, but don't want to switch out all those components again. Any thoughts? Can a controller alone be tested to see if it's bad? Can it work on one drive, then fry it, then work on another?

Is it set up correctly in BIOS? Drive A as 1.44 Floppy? Is the cable bad? Cheaper to buy a new cable than a Drive.

I too would check that the proper cable is connected properly.

Are you sure the jumper haven't been changed? Highly unlikely with newer drives, but old drives had channel, terminator, and disk change jumpers.
