Can a Canon LBP-4+ laser printer run in Windows 7?

April 10, 2014 at 05:47:57
Specs: Windows XP, ?
I have upgraded operating system from Windows XP to 7, and now I cannot print with my excellent and serviceable Canon printer, as I cannot find a suitable driver. Is there a solution, apart from buying a new printer, as I really like this reliable Canon product. Back on XP until I resolve this! Thanks

Those old Canon printers are just re-badged Hewlett Packards. Try using an HP Laserjet 3 or 5 driver for it. Windows will have those built-in.

Unless Canon produce drivers for windows 7 there is nothing you can do. You might try drivers for Windows Vista if hey are avaialble. They may work.

Thanks for that, I will try when I revert to Windows 7 on Monday, and report back.

Many (laser) printers are by design able to emulate an hp3 or hp4 (depends on age of printer as to which it is - usually). So try installing it as hp4 printer.

I have done that successfully with an Epson EPL 1600 that emulates hp4; using Mac OS, and also win-7.

also offers some thoughts - including hp4L (emulation).

Likely it will work fine as an hp4. Install the hp4 drivers and see what happens...

Hello again!
Tried with HP laserjet 4250PCL6, but no luck, printer activates but just prints out gobbledygook.
Tried with "generic printer" setting text only, and printer will work with this but # character replaces English £ sign, tried to change font on computer settings, but no English UK font available on system. Any more ideas please?
Could not see HP laserjet 3 or 5 on the system, all have 4 digits 3050PCL5, 3052PCL5, 3055PCL5, and many others all with 4 digits and PCL5 and 6 suffixes. Thanks for help thus far. Regards
