Cable Modem

I just got cable internet last month and I currently rent the modem at $5 a month. The modem is an external one called webstar by scientific atlanta connected to the Ethernet card in my computer. I don't know much about this stuff and I plan on keeping the cable and want to buy my own modem. The cable company sent me a coupon to get a Motorola surfboard modem valued at $99 from Cirucit city for $40. There's a $50 rebate and another $10 when you show Circuit City your cable bill. My question is how do I know this is a good one or is there anything I should look for when picking one out? Here's the description of the Motorola modem if anyone can give some advice I would appreciate it.

Experiencing high-speed Internet is quick and easy with this Motorola SURFboard External DOCSIS Cable Modem. It’s quick because it has an always-on, always-connected signal that helps you surf the Web even faster. It’s easy because it offers both a USB and Ethernet connection and is DOCSIS 1.0 certified, which helps to ensure compatibility with almost any computer and modem system. The stand-by switch adds security by allowing you to disconnect the signal without having to unplug the modem

Most cable modems will work just fine. Motorola is a well-known brand name that usually has good products.

The main thing you need to worry about is compatibility, but this would not be an issue if the offer is from your cable co.

$40.00 is a good price.

Thanks I think I will get it. I figured for $40 it's better than renting for $5 a month and I do plan on keeping the cable for a long time because I really love it.

Great Modem!!Get it. I have a Surfboard and it has never given me problems. In fact, most cable isp's recommend this modem over others, because of reliability and preformance. At $40??? Thats a steal!!!!!!
