Hello, So Im planning in buying a new 160gb seagate HDD from newegg but I have some questions. One of them is that I was reading one of the reviews and it said that you need xp sp2 to see all of the 160gb is this true? Also I do have a rather old computer about 5 years old and I was thinking if my bios will recognize all the 160gb? a while back I tried to flash the bios to a newer version but my only problem was that I couldnt find the correct bios anywhere. I guess its some HP thing? by the way I believe my motherboard is an Asus and the bios is Award Modular BIOS v6.0 and I guess the company who makes it is Phoenix. Thanks for the help in advanced.

the only place you're gonna find a BIOS update for an HP board (even though it is an ASUS) is at the HP website.
And why would you buy a HDD at newegg when they're almost always on sale at either Circuit City, CompUSA, or BestBuy for like $30 after rebate?
You might wanna play it safe & get a 120GB HDD...or you can buy ATA controller card, then use the larger drive

I was reading one of the reviews and it said that you need xp sp2 to see all of the 160gb is this true?
You really don't have to have SP2. XP SP1 fixed the problem with 48-bit LBA. With SP1 (or SP2) the HD size recognition by Windows is no longer an issue. Otherwise buy the ATA controller card.

Um sorry for the late follow up, so that means my mo bo can only accept an 120gb hdd? and I dont have no more open PCI slots well theres an empty one but my AGP silencer is blocking it......so I guess Im going to have to for the 120gb? yeah Ok im try and go to circuit city see if I can find one, Im a littl weary about rebates but I guess I'll give it a try.
