You realize that you'll need a new motherboard to go with the new CPU, correct? And possibly a power supply as well...maybe even RAM, it depends on what type you're running now.

I just had a thought...when you say "CPU", are you referring to the processor? Some folk consider the case with all the internal components to be the CPU.

yes I sure do.... But i figured that if I first decide wich CPU (yes i mean the processor) to buy then go from there. I already got a nice ATX powersupply so I need to buy new RAM and a new motherboard (probably asus). Any adivice?

well depends on what your after and what you'll use your comp for.
but if you want a fast but cheap processor get a 2500+ barton and some ddr400 ram then run the barton at 200fsb making it a 3200+ read on here its easily done.

as for the board i recommend the asus a7n8x delux version v2.0.

or you could get a msi kt8 and a athlon 64 processor all depends what you need your pc to do

Athlon xp 2000+ @1.7
pc 2100 256mb ram
radeon 8500
win xp home oem
several other things
new pc on way

There is always "something new" arround the corner. Just get what you need, what will run your apps. Just because something new comes out, it doesn't make your current set up obsolete.

Shutle MN31N mobo
2500+ Barton
1gig DDR Kingston HyperX
Hightech Excalibur Radeon 9800 Pro Iceq 128mb
Antec True Power 430w
Dual 40gig WD.

the latest & greatest products have a premium price. If you need a computer today, buy one. If you can wait, wait. When the newest one is available, the price of older models usually goes down.

JG, what do u mean, i already have a nice ATX ps?
does it have the 12 volt connector? if not then its not that great, i mean will not run some cpus!! some motherboards have the 12 v connector cause the cpu needs more current, " power" as some call it, to run.

Prices vary so much from about 200 to 10,000 all depending on what u get. of course the more moeny spent the better hardware one gets. Careful here cause some places can rip u off or should i say one can sometimes find the same item for less elsewhere.

On black friday i got at best buy, a emachine celeron for about 200 bux. it is too slow for me and am selling it for about 250.
i got a p4E and 1 gb ram. it is still not fast enough for me. lots faster than my old systems but guess we always want more speed, in processing, graphics, etc.

do some research on the web and do not depend on ppl like us cause we all have our own opinions and it might not be what u really want or need.
to to anandtech web site and read what he recommends. lots of good info there.
