Hello folks,
Im planning to buy a new Seagate SATA 200GB HDD. I would like to know, besides the SATA data cord, is there anything else required to set it up? Also will installing Windows XP from CD work and detect my SATA disk? Is there anything specifically i need to check before I buy the disk? My mobo is Intel865GBF and it supports SATA. I dont know about SATA II, is it something new???

HI
Sata and sata 2 are diferent but not all that much, I suspect that your board will not accept sata 2.
Not much else yu need to know, but what might be worth doing is updating your mother board bios to the latest version.
To install windows, just set the boot order to boot from cd and follow the standard install procedure.
I would recomend that your partition such a huge drive. To keep things simple, split the drive into 4 partitions.
The C partition can be about 16 gig in size, this a good managable size and seems to suit XP quiet well. The rest you can split as you seem fit and in line with your usage.
If your copy of XP is pre sp1 you may experience some issues with size recognition but once you install all the service packs and updates this should fix its self.
Hope that is of some help to you.
Regards
