Burnt-out LCD

My laptop's LCD screen is much the worse for wear; it's a bit "worn out" in a large area in the middle of the screen, which manifests itself as a large, irregular patch that's darker than the edges of the screen. When I turn up the brightness, the middle is okay but then the edges are too bright. Is there any kind of program that will allow me to brighten up only a certain part of the screen? The laptop itself is a Toshiba 110CS, and the screen is a TFT active matrix display.
