I installed 2g of ram and installed one backwards which made the computer smell of smoke and beep. I found the problem. One ram was ruined so I used the other one. Computer was running and now it disconnects from internet and says modem not found or connection not found. Did I ruin my computer?

Yeah, you're lucky that all you fried was the RAM...you could have trashed the whole system.

"internet iis AOL"

That's not what he meant. Do you use dial-up, DSL or cable internet?

internet is dial up. So what do you think is wrong with the computer if it is not fried?

How did you manage to install the ram backwards. What did you do jam the ram in the slot as hard as you can? I surprised you didn't break any of the connections along with frying your motherboard or at the very least your ram slot itself.
