PLease I have few films in .Avi format on my harddisk and I don't want to discard them. I want to burn them onto discs.

I have CDwriter (Aopen CRW1232) and CD-R (80min) discs. I have nero burning software installed. So my question is, can it be possible to burn Avi film on CD-R? please I want some ideas and clues on how to burn these files on CD-R, so that I can always play and watch them like DVD.

I will appreciate any response. Thank you.

dont think you can straight play avi's...you CAN staright play divx and mpeg so maybe you could convert them?
i know a bit about svcd and vcd format and i also know that it is quite easy to convert avi's to mpeg2 with things like tsunami mpeg encoder (tmpgenc)...nero also has the ability to make svcd's so maybe this is the solution you're after...oh, they also play on some standalone dvd players!

go for svcd as its better quality...i make svcd's and most people, at max bitrate of 26000 bps cant tell the difference between them and dvd....nuff said!

to play them you will need a dvd software player like power dvd or win dvd

Nero will auto.convert to mpeg-1(vcd)when you burn an avi.Mpeg-2(svcd,dvd)will require
the mp2 codec which you can buy at www.ahead.de
Check-out www.vcdhelp.com they have lots of free software, guides and a forum for questions.

All you need to do to put an AVI to cd is to make the cd as a data cd. Go into nero and tell it to create a normal data cd, place in the video file and burn the cd. To play the movie just inert the cd into a cd drive and double click the avi icon when exploring the cd. It will play in the exact same way as what they do when they are on your computer now.

You don't need to convert them to any other format unless you would like to create something like a VCD. Apart from that just burn it like I said.
