P4S800 3.0ghz cpu. PC3200 400mhz 515mb RAM. Radeon 9600 256mb video card. P/S 400watt.
Here's what happened:
Afrer several tries in case, I had to remove the mobo from the case and set it on the box it came in to get it to work (a tech forum said to try this). Finally fans for case and cpu turned on. But no screen, no beeps, no BIOS.I don't remember how many tries it took, of reseating the ram and video card, and taking out the battery, but I finally got it to get a screen (BIOS). It recognized the hard drive this one time.
I used my bootable XP cd, formatted it in NTFS, and it seemed just fine, until it hung on "copying files". I assume this was because I didn't start smartdrv. Which I couldn't, since the cd booted up and thus couldn't get to a: prompt to start smartdrv.
So it hung, I restarted. And again, got no screen, no beeps, no bios. I hear the hard drive spinning though.
After doing the ritual of removing ram, the vid. card, and the battery... it finally booted to BIOS again after letting the stuff sit for awhile. But it wouldn't recognize the hard drive.
This time I had set the bios to boot first on floppy instead of cdrom, so I could start smartdrv. I did that, and went into the i386 folder, ran winnt... and obvioulsly, it didn't see the hard drive.
Of course it's in NTFS. I forget which time it booted to a: prompt and I tried to FDISK and it said "No fixed disks present."
Please help! The case/power supply, notherboard, processor, video card, and ram are all new parts. The mobo/cpu was a combo that was tested to ensure that it worked together.
I'm at witts end trying to figure this one out.

Hi first be sure you moved the bios/battery jumper from clear to run, manual whould tell you. next if it is posting .. enter bios setup and be sure if it has virus protect it is turned off, also check to be sure hdd is being detected corectly.
Not sure but I would think when you use xp cd to boot any dos program needed would be ran.
If you have more than one ram stick try only one.
It is possible but think not, when you first tryed mobod in case and it was shorting out, the mobod fried.:(
