Thanks for any advice.

Brad,
Your choices will definitely work. Just two points to consider:
1. The 865PE Chipset requires at least DDR333 PC2700 memory and will accept DDR400 PC3200 memory which is better/faster. Refer to Intel's URL ....http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets/linecard.htm
2. The Intel motherboards are often NOT overclockable; though excellent. In fact the Intel D865 PERL is featured in this article..

I don't know if overclocking is important to you. If it is there are excellent alternatives with the 865PE Chipset or the newer 875P Chipset from Asus, Abit, Chaintech and Shuttle.
Good luck,
Sandor

PC2100 memory is not fast enough considering the rest of the system.
Ultra ATA/100 hard drive? Go for a SATA (Serial ATA) drive (ATA/150).

If you are going all out on the hardware why are you limiting yourself to a CD reader. I would install the CD-RW and add a DVD+/-RW in order to see DVD's and have the means to be compatible with other PC's (some older systems have problems reading CD's burned on newer DVD-RW's). Otherwise it looks like a choice system if you follow the comments regarding faster memory.
Richard

Make sure the memory is listed as tested and passed for that board on the Intel site.
If it isn't then DON'T use it no matter what the memory Mfg says.I would also opt for a Creative modem and probably 86 the Zip drive.

I am seeing more systems that do not have a modem if they plan on a highspeed internet link. Unless you plan on faxing from the PC or use a dial-up ISP then I would most likely not put one in either. One potential slot used and the resources for it. Jimi_l have you seen problems with memory not working for that board?
Richard

Yes I have. If it's not on the list it may-
A Not post
B Post but be unstable
C Be fine2 out of 3 is terrible odds and I only stick to the list now.
Jimi_l

Ok I picked some different things
ram:Kingston KVR400X64C3A/512 512MB DDR400 PC3200 CL3 DIMM 3-3-3 I got this off intels site
hard drive:Western Digital Caviar SE WD2000JD 200GB Serial ATA 7200RPM Hard Drive w/8MB Buffer
DVD+RW:Sony DWU18ABK Internal DVD±RW Bare Drive
Thanks for your help
