Specs: none yet, q8300/2GB DDR2-533
I just bought a motherboard and a quad, plugged everything in and it did not start. The wire from the cpu fan blocked the fan from turning and everything shut. Now I have fan running but the building dmi pool page... did I fry my cpu ?

"did I fry my cpu ?"

No. If you did, you would see nothing on the screen.

Disconnect all drives (floppy, HDD & optical) & unplug all external devices except the keyboard. Remove all add-in cards except for the video. Make sure both power plugs (24-pin & 4-pin ATX12V) are connected to the board. Then boot up & use the keyboard to enter the BIOS & configure the settings. While in the BIOS menu, check the CPU temp.

You realize that DDR2-533 is the wrong RAM for a 1333MHz FSB CPU, right? You should at least have DDR2-667...or higher rated RAM if you ever intend to overclock.

Well Jam, I saw your message in the morning, looked over the Gigabyte supported ram, the slowest suported is 667 Mhz. I borrowed a 800Mhz at the office and... Voila !
