Building a multi-disk enclosure

I have about 4 or 5 additional hard drives, each with its own external case. As you can imagine, the wiring and cabling is a nightmare. I decided that the best thing to do is to buy a small mini-tower case and put all of the hard drives in it, therefore serving as just a hard drive storage enclosure. I want all the hard drives to use the same PSU and some how to all connect to a single USB (or firewire) port on the back of the case that would be used to connect to another computer, preferably in an empty (PCI) expansion slot. Since the case is for hard drives only, I will not need a motherboard. Since I won’t need a motherboard, I won’t be able to use any of the standard PCI card adapters. I was thinking of just using a regular 4-port USB hub to join all of the drives, but then how would I get all of them to connect to a single port (preferably on the rear of the case). Has anyone ever attempted something like this or seen something similar? Any advice or tips?

I know about those multibay enclosures. My thoery is that I can use a $30 case and some other modifications all for $100 less than the cost of this thing.

I use one of these: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=5261597738&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=43759 to connect my external hard disk to a USB port on my pc.
You could buy a case like you say and mount the drives in, then stick one of these on each drive. You could then use a USB hub to connect them all together leaving you with just the one port you can plug into another pc.
