I'm looking for some new memory to put in my new system. I'm looking at 512mb (2x256) for the dual channel. My mobo is the and Asus a7n8x-e deluxe and a mobile xp2500+. I just want some decent pc3200 that will take my cpu to xp3200+ and higher speeds, without spending more than $110. I have an account with newegg, and it would be the preferred place to get it. Any input would help alot thanx

Running dual channel mode on a socket A system is a waste...the CPU's FSB is the bottleneck.
Think in terms of bandwitdh, which is calculated as effective FSB x 8. The max bandwidth at 200mhz (400FSB) is 3200mb/sec (400 x 8). The max throughput of PC3200 RAM is 3200mb/sec. Therefore, PC3200 in single channel mode is all you need!
PC3200 in dual channel mode has a potential throughput of 6400mb/sec (2 x 3200), but since the CPU's 400 FSB is limted to 3200mb/sec, there's nothing to be gained by running dual channel

Regardless of the usefulness in your particular instance, I bought Kingston Value RAM from NewEgg for a backup computer and am very happy so far.
Happy Shopping, Bob

Just narrow down your scope from about the five (Corsair, Crucial, Geil, Kingston and OCZ) better known brand names then pick one based on your pocket and you ought to be OK.
Ironically my Nanya sticks are so reliable, I will be buying them again, unless something strange goes awry with them.

Although I have never had a problem with generic memory, I'd still buy a name brand (plenty listed above) so I could match it later on. Start with one 512Mb stick.

so if you got two identical sticks of pc4000 and ran them in dual channel in your athlon system, and maxed out your fsb, would you see better performance with dual channel?
