Hey everyone,

I'm finally ready to build a new computer.

Because I'll be selling my old computer this is going to need everything, power supply, monitor, cpu, heatsink, ram, mobo, case, etc , etc

It seems as if new cards are coming out soon and im getting advice not to buy until at least february.

Im just looking for some good advice on getting a good computer (maybe within 500 dollar range?) and a good 22-24" lcd monitor (unless something better is suggested within that range)

Im not looking for the ULTIMATE gaming rig or anything I dont do much heavy duty gaming but something that'll run mid-level games with ease.

Any suggestions guys, you've helped me in the past I know you can be there for me in this important decision!

ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe Mobo
AMD Athlon XP 2800 OC to 2200Mhz
1gb DDR400 Ram.
Geforce 6800 LE overclocked and unlocked.
450W Power Supply.

If a 22-24" LCD monitor is included in that $500 price, it aint gonna happen. You're looking at more like $700-800.

Yeah that monitor definitely isnt included in that price or i wont have much of a computer at all lol.

That link for the 500 gaming machine is the one i think i said i was a little iffy about, i might go with a different mobo but i'll just look into it more.

Didn't expect you to build that exact system...just wanted to give you an idea.

Not sure if you're in the US or not, or how you feel about "open box" items, or whether you prefer AMD or Intel, but check these possibilities.

Good links thanks for your time,

I've got a little something put together, I might go with that video card since its cheap and decent (even though its open box) until the new 9 series comes out next month and nab something then.

I'll try and post my build up later it consists of something like

Intel Duo e2160 (plan on overclocking)
and going from there, need to check on monitors,

whats the noticeable difference between a 5ms reponse time and 3ms?

Here's whats been put together so far, some from the 500 budget article, some not.

Case:http://www.mwave.com/mwave/skusearch.hmx?&scriteria=BA21145
PS: http://www.mwave.com/mwave/skusearc...

Intel Pentium Dual Core e2160 (plan to overclock this, a friend has very similar setup with this chip overclocked another 1Ghz almost)

MB: Gigabyte P35-DS3L
Ram: #
# CRUCIAL 2GB KIT BL2KIT12864AL804

Video: Radeon 2600XT 256mb ddr3 pci-e w/hdtv and DVI.

Heatsink/fan: http://www.mwave.com/mwave/skusearc...

HD: WD 250gb wd2500ks / WD2500AAKS SATA300 16mb 7200rpm (bare drive)

Monitor: ASUS 22" VW222U 1680x1050 2000:1 2ms (black/silver)(retail)

And a keyboard/mouse combo for 9 bucks.

I need to double check right now if the video card and monitor are compatible, i believe they were.

Any thoughts?

I personally thought the PS was on the high side but when it comes to power I think its better to be safe.

I have the same case. Got it not long ago from Newegg. Free after rebate w/free shipping :-)

Silverstone makes quality PSUs but I don't like the fact that Mwave didn't list the amperage specs. This Corsair PSU is cheaper (after rebate) & ships for free, plus it has a whopping 41A on the +12v rail:

Does your CPU come with a HSF? Why buy another? Use that $24 elsewhere.

Lol the HSF i didnt know came with the processor since im using to buying chips by themselves.

As for the power supply it was listed in THG 500 budget gaming PC.

Already bought everything, ended up going with a different monitor (same size but 5ms response instead of 2ms and 700:1 instead of 2000:1 with no speakers) since the other was out of stock.

but im happy with this one it looks fine to me regardless of what 'warnings' ive received from certain people (why does it matter if a monitor goes out in a year if you have a 3 year warranty on it right? =) )

As for the HSF it was a waste, when I have more patience i might reinstall it but the pins were horrible to get in and I was able to overclock to 3ghz with the stock HSF.

Altogether its a good purchase, thank God.
