My laptop keyboard shorted out and now I use a USB keyboard but the laptop keyboard will go crazy typing commas or various other keys constantly without stop and the only way to stop it is to continually press buttons on the laptop keyboard and hit backspace on the usb keyboard. Even during this message it's doing it so please tell me how to disconnect the laptop keyboard or turn it off. Because it looks pretty impossible to simply remove as I've tried taking it appart and can't figure out how to take the laptop keyboard out.

Another suggestion would be to try finding a KBoard for the laptop on Ebay. The display seems to be the most vulnerable part on a laptop so you may get lucky. Not much portability with a desktop KB. I haven't a clue how to solve your problem with the existing KB.

You can remove the keyboard. Go to Dell's website and search for the user manual for the model that you have. Removing it requires one tiny screwdriver, and two minutes.

Hi, Best source of Used Keyboards here is the computer shows. The repairers usually have boxes full of all kinds of laptop parts. You are taking a chance on getting a good one so new would be a better way to go. If something was spilled on yours like soda pop or coffee and it's bad anyway I would try washing it out with clear water. Let it dry thoughly before you try it again.

Good Luck, Jim

Good advice by jim. Reputable resellers wouldn't intentionally sell you a bad keyboard. That said, if you buy used, get a written guarantee the KB will work or be replaced or refunded. Doesn't sound like a whole lot of work to install. As I stated before,I believe the display is what goes bad most frequently and it is the most expensive item to replace. The result is folks using the laptop as a desktop with external display, or scrapping it because the repair is more than the unit is worth. You should be able to find a servicable KB.
