I bought a PCI video card because I thought thats what I had on my Pavillion 793c. Turns out the old card was using AGP. Anyways my question is I have three PCI slots and on of them is being used by a modem which of course i never use would i be able to use the nex vid card in that slot?
AGP cards are infinitely better than standard PCI. Why didn't you look up your board specs or open the case before buying a new card? I found your motherboard in less than 30 seconds. It has a 4X AGP slot. Return the PCI card & buy something decent.

PCI, AGP, PCI-e. Pci-e cards usually have a suffix like x8 or x16 after the PCI-e or the word express.
