Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, 2.194 GHz / 996 MB
My old desktop only boots as far as the manufacturer screen when my new external HD (WD 1Tb) is plugged in (into the old USB 1 port. I don't have a usb2 port).
So I have to plug the HD in only after full bootup, then it goes thru every one of my partitions offering the various Windows options. Plays havoc withh my music collection listings in WMP..

Is this bcz i'm using USB 1?

many thanks

How long are you waiting? The computer has to check the file structure before continuing booting. I fouled my file allocation table by restarting too soon. The next start will be a dirty start. Having a slow interface compounds the problem. usb1 - 12 mbs usb2 - 480 mbs 40x slower. It could take over an hour if you have a complicated disk structure. Mine takes 20 min with 200 Mhz computer 500 GB hard drive.
