Solved Boots into BSOD even with safe or recovery

July 11, 2011 at 04:59:50
Specs: Windows XP, Pentium / 512?
Dell XP machine boots into BSOD even using safe boot, boot to prompt, or recovery console.
Here is code:
STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x82AF3130, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000)

Daughter's machine. If there was a system disc or recovery disc it's been long since lost. Machine is about 8 years old. (Kids have used it.)

Might this be a hardware problem, or software problem? Would at least like to recover photos.

Assuming the Hard Drive is working You can buy a Hard drive caddy to recover your photos. remove the HDD and insert it into the caddy and plug into a working machine.

Thanks for the suggestion. I do have an external USB case for the HD, but I was hoping to first see if I could fix the computer. If not, I will do as suggested.

I would use the external drive enclosure and save your files first, just to be safe. Then I would put the Windows XP disk in the drive and see if it will let you boot to it & run a Repair of your operating system. If the problem is hardware-related, it won't help, but it could be a corrupted driver or system file, in which case running an OS repair may fix it.

Boot to ultimate boot cd and start with memtest.

If fails then turn off system unplug and press power button a few times and then re-seat memory and re-test.

Dell may sell a replacement media or consider linux or an upgrade to Windows 7 if supported or just give to goodwill and take a tax credit and buy a new system. Keep track of the media.
