Co-worker bought computer in parts and I am trying to help trouble shoot video problem. Put parts together and boot up, I get no video.
Motherboard is a Biostar p4m80-m4 socket 478 with internal vga, processor Intel P4 1.6 400 FSB. I have tried different CPU, memory and vga card, but still get no video. Generic case came with no internal speaker.
Online site list 400/533/800 FSB capable and Biostar has two pages, one says the same and one say 533/800 only. Would this stop the computer from showing POST?
Any idea as to what I can try before motherboard gets RMA?

From the BIOSTAR site "• Processor:
Intel Pentium 4 Prescott and Celeron processors
800/533/400 MHz system interface speedThere may be more to it than just the FSB.
I haven't assembled an Intel computer in years but with AMD sometimes there is a jumper on the MBoard to run at the lowest FSB.You may also need to setup the chip manually. Below are some of the specs.
Processor Frequency 1.60 GHz
Package Type 478 pin PPGA FC-PGA2
Bus Speed 400 MHz
L2 Cache Size 256 KB
L2 Cache Speed 1.60 GHz
Manufacturing Technology 0.18 micron
Bus/Core Ratio 16
Box Order Code BX80528JK160G
OEM Order Code BX80528JK160GRVoltages and other settings may need to be set manually? One other item is the VERSION of the MBoard. The BIOS onboard may or may not support the chip.
Let the manual be your guide.

I opened the manual:
ftp://ftp.biostar-usa.com/manuals/P4M80-M4/P4M80M4manual.pdfThere was nothing about naually setting CPU. This site was for CPU Support:
http://www.biostar-usa.com/cpusuppo...It does not list the motherboard in question. Funny thing it I tried a 533 FSB celeron and it did not POST either.
Nothing out of the ordinary smells burnt when I turn the computer on. No visible burm marks either.

P4s require a square 4 pin power connector in addition to the normal power connector. It plugs directly into the MBoard.
Clear the CMOS with the onboard clrcmos jumper. Check the manual to verify the jumper is currently in the run position.
