Hi,
Im having some trouble with my computer. Specs are AMD Athlon processor, 512 RAM, Atapi 48x DVD/CD ROM combo drive, Legacy 52x CD ROM Drive, Floppy Drive, 60gb Hard Drive. Installed OS's Win XP Pro SP2 and Knoppix HD Install, Dual Boot with LILO on the MBR.
I turned on this morning and justy before it gets to the LILO GUI where you choose the OS to boot to, the computer stops, and displays the message L 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 .......... and so on, for maybe 150-200 9's. It doesnt respond to any keyboard inputs.
I put LILO on ther MBR about 2 weeks ago, and haven't had any problems unitl now. I tried to reboot a few times but had the same problems. I thought 'oh, LILO is messing it up, i'll boot from my xp cd and run fixmbr' in order to reinstate the MBR to its former glory. I stuck in the cd and rebooted. Instead of booting from the cdrom drive, exactly the same thing happened. it didnt seem to recognise cd at all. I tried it in the other cd drive, and again, same problem.
The screen momentarily displayed the message 'CMOS Checksum Error', which I had never seen before. I checked the BIOS settings, and booting from cd was top priority in the list. I saved and exited the BIOS settings and rebooted. The 'CMOS checksum error' message no longer shows up.
One glimer of hope.... it does seem capable of booting from floppy disc, successfully booting to MSDOSv6 from floppy.
If anyone has an idea as to what is causing this problem, and if it is possible to correct, any help would be greatly appreciated.
