I have recently become more interested in a quandry that's been bouncing around in my head. I am currently running a pc with windows xp but would like to familiarize myself with OSX. I have an installation disk for osx and a maxtor 300 gig external usb hard drive. My pc supports "boot from usb" option in the bios. I was wondering if it is possible to install OSX or any OS theoretically, to the external hard drive. Any ideas on the matter before I give it a run through would be appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry, I meant to clarify that it isn't a usb flash drive or thumb drive. I'm sure that can be assumed due to the large capacity that I am speaking of.

It will work with no problems..except for the fact that usb is only 12mbs very slow..Dont expect great performance trying to run an Operating system from it. If your interested into learning a new operating system..I would recommend linux as it requires the least amount of performance..and again it will be sloooow running it that way.

Actually I run linux on an older box that I own but OSX is for media editing. I have been doing some reading and it appears that this will require me to format the external HD and install the OS to it as a fresh install. This shouldn't be a problem and the slow speed doesn't bother me as I've spent most of my life operating off of a 56k. Anywho I'm excited to try this, thank you for your help.
