Comment: I want to be able to use a USB external drive as a backup if my hard drive fails. I have read that it's difficult/impossible to boot to a USB drive. Is it possible to use a boot CD, then switch to the USB drive? (I would clone my hard drive to the external drive.)

Reply: (edit)If you do not have a bios setting for usb boot then you can use a program called BOOTitNG. It will allow you to boot from just about any usb device. You can find it at: www.terabyteunlimited.com But I would also consider BARTS PE... It's kind of like xp that is run on a disk and not on the HDD
