This is the correct forum for your query, General Hardware. Look on the left side of this page for the Windows XP Forum link.
It sounds as if you may have a hardware problem with the CD drive. If you go into BIOS you can remove the CD ROM from the boot sequence, but a klanging noise sounds like a drive getting ready to fail. HTH

BTW, 'boot sequence' refers to the order in which the computer accesses devices to find a bootable program, such as Window, Linux, DOS, etc. For example, you would want to boot from CD ROM first, HD second, to install XP or Win2k. For Win98, the boot sequence would be floppy first, HD second. HTH

Win98 boot sequence is debatable, since it depends on how you set it up in your BIOS setting, but it is irrelevant so let's not even go there. The rest, I absolutely concur. If you're not planning on using bootable CD, then there is no need to include CD in the boot sequence. This will prevent the system from accessing the CD drive when you first turn it on.

Klang-klang sounds metallic, click-click sounds plastic and boom-boom sounds like, well you already know. I like klang-klang better, it's very musical, but it's not normal and not a good sign. Seems like something is loose and be advised. If any loose part prevented the motor from running, then the motor will draw extremely high current from the power supply, which will cause the motor winding to burn out, the fuse to blow, or the power supply to overload, whichever comes first. Then you will hear klang-klang, followed by click-click, and finally boom-boom.
