OS: XP Professional
CPU/Ram: 2.4 ghz Intel Pent. 4/512

Ok I'm having problems with a new PC. I'm using the ECS P4VXAD rev. 3.1. Here's a list of my parts:

-ECS P4VXAD 3.1 (motherboard)
-CENTON 512mb DDR Ram 2100 (memory)
-WESTERN DIGITAL 80 gb 7200RPM (hard drive)
-Gefoce 4 Ti4200 (video Card)
-Lite On 48X (cd rom)
-FoxConn Allied 400w PSU (power supply)

--------------------------
I'm trying to install XP Corporate or Professional version, but I'd be happy with damn near anything at this point. It gets thru the Memory and Post test. It displays an error about not finding a floppy drive, but I'm not using one anyway. It displays an error about not finding an array when it displays the messages for the FastTrak Lite Raid controller software. I'm not using a raid though so i hit esc to continue on. I have the CDRom set to boot so I pop in the XP Pro CD and it gives me error code 7's all the time but tells me that a different file is corrupt everytime it crashes. I've tried resetting the jumpers on the Motherbaord to reset the bios. Tried two brands of memory (kingston, centon). Tried multiple memory slots. I've tried to install the os via another computer and it begins to install XP fine with the same CD i'm trying on the new pc. I've cleaned the CD and tried two different CDRoms on the new machine. I have the hard drive on IDE channel 1 and the CDRom on IDE channel 2. Both set to Cable Select. I've also tried setting them both to Master since they are on different cables. I was told by ECS to set them both to CAble select.

I have good cooling setup and the CPU seems to be fine temperature wise (using the BIOS temperature tool it says the CPU is consistently staying around 30-40 degrees c) So I don't think it's the CPU.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and if you need more info please ask or email me,

Thanks,

Eric B.

Ok, I'll try that but I can't seem to find anywhere to disable it via the Bios. I looked at the manual pretty hard for the last couple of days and didn't find any info about it. I'll see what I can do and reply back though.

Thanks,

Eric B.

I can't figure out how to disable the RAID driver. I've looked at Promise's websit and at ECS. Can't find the option anywhere in Bios. Any suggestions?

Also I've tried 2 different memory sticks. I bought a new one last night to try and the errors are exactly the same. Any suggestions? Could both memory sticks be bad? The first was a kingston then the second was Centon brand.

What ver. of the P4 2.4 are you using?

If its the 533FSB P4 then you need to use PC2700 DDR or higher.

If your only using 1 HD on your raid controler you can set it up as Span so that the raid controler will have the drive set up as a array.

If your installing to the hard drive on the RAID controller then you need to install the driver for the controller during the install or it may not copy files to the drive properly.

Well, I'm using the 533FSB P4 but the ECS motherboard says it supports this P4 2.4ghz, although in the motherboard manual it says that it only supports up to 266 ram which would be 2100 ram right? I also spoke with the reseller I purchased this from and he said he's used 2700 ram in this particular motherboard and it's worked fine, however ECS does not confirm whether or not 2700 ram is compatible...only 2100.

As far as the raid I DO NOT want to use the RAID controller. I need to disable this but I can not find a way to. Is there a way to tell this RAID to disable other than the BIOS?

Any other suggestions guys?

I appreciate the help so far

Nother problem. I went to setup or bios by hitting the delete key. I was checking the CPU temperature and Fan speeds etc. then it all of a sudden just shut off.

Any suggestions?

I had many problems with my ASUS motherboard (CUV4X-E) with new SD-ram PC133. After many tries, I found Ram built in the 2000 year that work all right and will work for many years. Maybe your memory is good, but is not compatible for your motherboard. Windows XP boots and runs even if you have bad memory bits, but it sometimes crashes. I got that problem for many months until I found that it was the memory. I recommend that you use Gold Memory 5.07 to test your memory. Take it on that site:
http://slico.free.fr/PUB/Gold%20Memory%205.07%20%7C%20Shareware/GoldMemory5.07.zip

You'll need a floppy to boot on it. If you run this program (in DOS) and it just doesn't finish booting, your memory really doesn't work. If it start to test and you see a red color, you have a memory problem. It may be also the motherboard. But for me, my motherboard is working good even if it doesn't take new SD-Ram.

I also upgraded my Bios Version. It helped me a little bit for my problem. Maybe it will help you too. I wish that you will find the problem soon. Good luck !
