I recently replaced the bios chip and cmos battery after no video or POST beep. I lined the notch up and seated the new chip and got video and went into the Phoenix BIOS and set things up. I tried setting the 1st bood device to be the HDD then set it up for the floppy then the CD in each case the machine gets to the screen where it would usually show something like verifying D.M.I. before the logo screen but it stops there and the curser blinks with no progress to boot off the floppy or the Win ME CD or the HDD. All the drives work and I have tried different boot device orders but the same result. The BIOS recognized each drive with the "auto" setting and I have loaded the "fail safe" as well as the "optimized" options and it still hangs without booting off of either of the drives. I recently installed a new BIOS chip on a ECS K7S5A PRO and it has worked fine. Thanks for any help and ideas as to what to try next.

Where did you get the replacement CMOS chip from? Which BIOS is flashed to the chip? If you're asking about the Shuttle AK12, it uses the Award BIOS, not Phoenix.

Thanks, jam for your response. the original bios chip I removed has a phoenix bios sticker on it(Phoenix BIOS tm D686 BIOS phoenix 1999). I got the new chip from a vendor on ebay with the latest version for the 1.10 board(AK12s020). I had bought a new chip for an ECS K7S5A PRO ver. 5.0 which works fine from the same vendor.I have contacted the vendor in regards to this and am looking at all options

aren't there other issues, that can cause this? eg. bad caps

Thanks, larry I'm not sure, the system was shut down and when I powered it up the problem happened. After replacing the battery the same problem existed so I bought a new programmed chip and installed it and the post beep, floppy seek and video all work. I can access the bios and adjust all the settings and save then it reboots and I get the video bios screen then the memory test/ drive test screen then it goes to the screen where the drives and the IRQ's are listed and hangs there the floppy and then the CD drive stop the HDD-0 front panel led stays lit. It won't continue like it can't see any of the drives to boot from.

try disconnecting the hard drive & cd, and see if you can boot from the floopy. I assuming you have a windows Me boot floopy.

Thanks again for your assistance larry, I disconnected the other drives and set the bios to boot from the floppy I put in a known working Win ME boot disk and started it up. the floppy light lights up and stays lit but it isn't reading the floppy, on post the floppy does cycle, the floppy is seated. I have tried a couple of boot disks with the same result

I had the chip re-flashed with the latest file and it can recognize the drives but it doesn't seem to be able to read any of the drives or boot from any of them, it hangs on the PCI device listing page.
