Hi,

Yesterday i bought a new keyboard (Logitech MX3200) which works great..
Now, this keyboard also came with a mouse and the tranciever goes into one USB port for both devices..

With my older keyboard (which was also cordless) i was very used to have "boot up from PS/2 keyboard" enabled and i allways switched it on by pressing some key..

But now with this keyboard not having a PS/2 input it doesn't work anymore... Is there a way i can make it boot up from a USB device like my new keyboard..?

My mobo is a Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe.

Thanks in advance.

Try booting into the BIOS screens and set "enable legusy USB devices". Save and Exit. Be sure to install the software to assure proper performance of the hardware in Windows.

You are not BOOTING from your KBoard. That can't be done. You boot from a drive of some sort. You need your KBoard to work in the pre-windows mode. Once you get into Windows your KB/ mouse should work. Do they?
Just re-read your original post. Are you trying to START the computer by hitting a key on the Logitech KB? If so you need to change setttings in the BIOS under power management setup. Look for Power on options.

The computer WAS starting by hitting a key with my older keyboard but that was a PS/2 input, not a USB... and since i only got options for booting up from PS/2 devices, i can't get it to work with my new USB keyboard...

You are not booting up from a PS/2 device.
What BIOS is being used by your computer? Watch for it in the POST screens at startup.

"You are not booting up from a PS/2 device."

Why not? because i am.. look, when my older keyboard is connected and the computer is completely switched off, i can hit any key on the Kboard and the pc will switch on and boots up...
Trust me, it can be done.

You are Powering up the PC that is booting from the hard drive by hitting the button on the keyboard.
You are not booting up with the keyboard. The keyboard has no information to boot from.

You want to set it to power on via the keyboard button. Not boot from the keyboard.

Look at the info provided by OtheHill.

Bryan

It is semantics. You are booting from your harddrive. You are turning the computer ON using a key on the Keyboard. There is a difference.
I don't have a machine with that BIOS on it. There should be options in the BIOS Under Power Management Setup that will allow you to set to start using USB device and should even have a selection for the keystroke. The default MAY be Button. Change to USB.

Ok we had a little mis-communication here i'm sorry for that, offcourse it "boots" up from the harddrive, by powering up from the keyboard.:)

so back to the problem, there are only options for powering up from PS/2 devices and not for USB.. so i cant powerup from a USB keyboard, is there a way to do it?

Thanks so far btw.

DLoaded your MBoard manual and it doesn't appear you have the option you need.
I can suggest two things. First of course is to start via the case button. Second would be to reconnect the PS2 mouse and use strictly for startup. I believe the PS/2 & USB hardware can co-exist.

I agree that we are getting confused.

Yes, wake on (select) in bios normally works on lan, keyboard or other choices.

You stated that it did work with the old setup. I agree that the new keyboard should or would have a chance to work. As to why exactly it isn't is your question.

I would try the old keyboard just to see if indeed it works. If so then we could assume that it the new keyboard. The only thing I could suggest is return the bios to the previous working state and un-select and then reselect the wake on keyboard. If that doesn't work then I'd only guess it would be some reason either a power saving issue or communication timing issue with the new keyboard. See if another brand supports wake on keyboard.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

jefro,

The problem ins't my new keyboards or a power fault, it's my BIOS's.. it only supports wake up from PS/2 devices (like my old keyboard) and not from USB (like the new).

So i think i'll do what OtheHill suggested and connect an old PS/2 mouse that i will only be using for powering up my pc.

Thanks again.

The OP said, "With my older keyboard (which was also cordless)..", how could it be cordless and PS2 at the same time? Also how much effort does it take to turn on the computer the standard way? Is the box locked up in another room?
