I need help as well.
I am building new computer with a 5ema+ Soyo motherboard and an new but older K6-2 500 mHZ processor.
Every thing went well until I plugged in the machine and hit the DEL key during the post. I followed Soyo's instructions and then set the boot order to CD ROM A, C, which is the only choice if I want to run CD rom first.
I placed the Soyo motherboard disk per instructions and after the memory check I got this message:
Verifying DMI Pool Data...
Boot from ATAPI CD-Rom: FailureI have tried 3 different Cd Rom Drives and I have tried Master/Slave for a Maxtor 40gb CD Rom off of one ATA connector from the IDE #1 connection on the motherboard.
I have tried Master/Master Maxtor/Cd rom Drive with two ata connectors to IDE #1 and #2 connecttions on the motherboard.
I have replaced the ATA connectors(ribbons).
I have made sure that the red end of the ata connectors are plugged in properly at both the motherboard and the CD rom drive.
Any ideas, is there something in the the bios I need to set?
the UDM is set to auto
Thanks!

You haven't said if the bios is picking it up. Does the Cd show on the bootup screen?
If not go into the bios and do a detect all drives.

Throw that CD in another PC, and see if it will boot that one up. You may have a disk read problem. When it finishes post after memory check, does the cdrom spin up at all? Does the LED light on the cdrom light up? ( (ie. is it "trying" to read the cd?)
