Comment:

I just finished my computer and on this computer(windows xp pro) i made a boot disk by right clicking the A drive, chose format, and checked the option "Create an MS-DOS startup disk". I booted up the comp i made, everything went went well, so i decide to boot it up from the boot disk i made, it finds the floppy but says I/O error, please remove floppy and press any button, I removed the floppy, pressed a key, then it says "Please enter a bootable disk" :D. Am I making the boot disk correctly? Oh ya, another question, sometimes even before there
is display, the computer will turn itself off(sometimes turns itself in bios too, but sometimes it doesnt turn off at all). I hope you can help me.

Your boot disk is the one supplied by Windows XP when you use 'Create boot disk'.Check the version with ver at dos prompt. You may have hardware or software problems when the computer turns off erratically.Good luck.

So you said that i made the boot disk correctly? Because the files on there are display.sys, ega2.cpi, ega3.cpi, ega.cpi, keyb.com, keyboard.sys, keybrd2.sys, keybrd3.sys, keybrd3.sys, and mode.com. Is fdisk.exe supposed to be on there, and why is it saying I/O error replace floppy, didnt understand your post.

Could be overheating...could be bad RAM...could be inadequate power supply. Why do you need a boot disk? All it will do is take you to the A:\ prompt...the only time I've ever used one with XP was to flash the BIOS.

I dont it's overheating, i have 4 case fans, neither do i think it's lack of power b/c my PS is 500 watts. The memory i got monday, and its 512 DDR pc3200(idk if this makes a difference, but in the BIOS, there are no problems, memory, drives, and everything are all being shown.) I need a boot disk to partition my hard drive right? I may be wrong, so plz correct me.

If you already have WIN XP installed, why are you trying to create a boot disk? Unless there's a problem with you WIN XP installation...

On another note, I'm adding this because I had to find this out for myself and hopefully, this can help someone else out there...

If you are in need of help with your WIN XP installation...

AND...

IF YOU ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF A XP boot disk, (saying you you have some major problems w/ your system (& current OS) and you want to do a clean install of XP,) you can use a WIN XP CD to boot from. However, if you have already formatted your cpu (format c: /s) and it can't recognize your cd drive, you would go to microsoft.com, search for boot disk xp and download the program you need (home or professional)You'll need 6 clean floppies, by the way. This program will install (on your 6 floppies) a program to "MAKE" your computer recognize your cd drive by finding the appropriate drivers. It will then proceed to read the WIN XP cd for installation... and whala! This is long but I hope it helps for someone.
