BNC Connector

My 486 has a BNC connector on the back. I know it's a BNC connector, because I've seen BNC cables before. What is this connector good for?

It is the old style of networking where you use coax cable, the connector is how you hook up to the cable network line. Pretty much outdated stuff now.
