Hi there people, I bought a bluetooth 2.0 dongle yesterday for my laptop, one of those tiny ones that is barely bigger than the USB port plug, because my laptop is a tiny little netbook.

The package was equally as small, and of course came with no software. The dongle is a generic one based on the Cambridge Silicon Radio chipset and "works" with the XP built in drivers.

When I say works, I mean it is detected, and I can pair devices like my phone, I have even been able to send files to my phone (Nokia N95) but cannot receive files from my phone. (Even when using the receive mode from the wizard)

I am here to ask if anyone knows of a bluetooth stack/software I can install that will let me send and receive files as i would lke and also allow A2DP music playback (the speakers in this netbook are appauling).

I have tried an old widcomm driver (5.0.1.801) and this will allow me to send and receive files as i would like, but the A2DP refuses to connect to my headphones. Any later version than this from widcomm or the now controlling company anycom(?) has been device ID locked to their own brand devices and so is of no use.

Again, I have also tried the appauling software that is the IVT BlueSoleil, I have used it in the past and it is still as appauling, besides the 5MB limitation, this will send and receive files but again, I can't get A2DP to work.

Any suggestions anyone can put forward would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi

some what off topic..
& I dont know wether this will help ,
a friend of mine had an issue with his nok95 not connecting to his car hands free inbuilt stereo, Nissan dealer said it was a bluetooth compatibility issue Nok are using their own standard. my crappy L6 worked ok,
so it wasnt the car.

So contacting Nok they suggested upgrading the phone software, it turned out there were quiet a few upgrades just choose the latest, this means flashing the phone Os, easily done. Follow the web site installer, but you must back up everything first or its :O gone!
(took a while to recoup his contacts oops)
his blue tooth works flawlessly now.
possibly yours needs an upgrade?

To reply 1: Nice try but no, being an Engineer, my firmwares are always up to date, I have had the latest firmware on my nokia for a while now, and the problem with the windows driver, although it may be related to the noki bluetooth protocols its unique to the windows bluetooth stack as I can send and receive files using any other software like widcomm drivers and IVT bluesoleil ones.

to reply 2: You clearly didn't read hte whole post? I mentioned that I have already tried the IVT Bluesoleil software and also pointed out that I thought it's a complete pile of s---.

Well, i was going for a specific form factor of dongle, the other options did, as you suggest come with BlueSoleil, this one I took because of the fact it didn't come with that terrible software and instead relied on windows own drivers. But I didn't expect such problems from the windows drivers themselves.

I an run BlueSoleil with this dongle but I choose not to and am requesting suggestions for alternatives.

Thanks again.
