there is a problem with my moniter color. everything is in a blue and yellow palette. when i turn my computer off or go into settings on my moniter it shows normal colors and also i am unable to change the blue red or green. i have installed all of the nessicary drivers for my certain screen. i am positive it isnt my video card because it is literally brand new, it is a nVidia geforce fx 5600. i am wondering if it is my moniter cable? and if so how can i replace it. in case it matters i hav a viewsonic a90f+. if you could help me i would be very grateful.

Hi mmoltar:
My guess is you could have a bad red electron gun (blue & yellow seam to be working) if you're using a CRT monitor, or might be a bad cable or connection. Try monitor on a different PC, that should tell you if problem is outside your PC.

Good luck,
Z

The most common cause of losing red is a broken connection to the @1 pin in the connector that attaches to the video card.

Your monitor is fine. The wrong or lack of drivers do not result in this problem.

It's got to be your monitor cable, or its connector on the back of the computer, or you didn't get the video card into the slot just right, or the video card is defective.

If you have had this problem only and always since you installed the new video card, it's probably the video card.

To rule out the monitor cable/connector, try your monitor on another computer - you do not need to install drivers on the other computer to get all the colors.

The video card
I hope you realize you must REMOVE the power to your mboard when you install or remove anything from your motherboard - the board has powered sections even when the computer is in Shut Down, or Standby, or Hibernate, etc. modes. This means turn off a powerbar connected to the power supply, or turn off the switch on the power supply if it has one, or unplug the power supply (last choice - it is better if the case is still grounded).

If you did not do this, you may have fried your brand new video card when you installed it.

You could try (with power REMOVED)removing/reinserting your video card, making sure it is fully seated. Make sure your monitor cable connection is firmly screwed into the video port, all the way in.

You could take the card back to where you bought it and have them try it in a mboard they know it works in.

It could also be the video card is incompatible with your AGP slot, but usually if that is the case, it will not seat in the slot - there are several different types of AGP motherboard slots - you cannot use an AGP that has a X rating (X4, X8, etc)of more than the slot was designed for.
Not all AGP cards work in all motherboards.

i have dual monitors my 2nd monitor is a small 14" crt the cable is damaged going into the graphics card, a wire is loose or damaged inside the cable and it makes the monitor screen turn a purple colour, what i do is bend the wire and tape it up and this fixes the problem, perhaps the wire is damaged in a certain place ive seen this a few times aswell so is suggest bending the wire at certain points see if it fixes it.

to answer some of your questions i have tried a new moniter on my computer and it works fine (its just a lil bit smaller and crappier) also i had my video card installed by a professional in a computer store. and my vido card isnt AGP it is PCI. i am in the process of seeing if my moniter is any better with any other computer. and i will try to twist and tape the cord and see if that helps. thx a lot to every1 who posted.
