Hi there,

My monitor has just recently developed a problem. For some reason, every now and then the screen will develop a kind of blue tint (Everything which was Black will go blue, and other colours will contain shades of blue... as if looking thru blue filter paper).

I have made no changes to hardware/software and it happens randomly. Output is perfect on other monitors, and it effects all output, including DOS and different resolutions / colours.

Any help?

Your monitor is on the way out. The green color gun is failing. No option but to buy a new monitor.

Stuart.

if the green color gun was failing, it would give you a purple tint, not blue. Also failure of a color gun is not intermittant, it either works or it doesn't.

You most likely have a loose connection between the monitor cable and the video card. Wiggle the cable a bit where it connects to the video card and see if the problem is realated.

Well, it's either the monitor, cable or video card. My bet is the monitor.

I believe Tom is correct the cable that runs from your monitor to your v-card is going. Try a new monitor on that system, or try that monitor on anouther system, if the blue tint shows on eather of those tests, then that is your problem.

I have a bad monitor cable(has a week spot that changes colors) I tried to open the case but got too scared of what other people said about them KILLING people. I then put the screws back in. I heard that a dell monitor had same problem and that tech support told them to open the case and replace the cable that way. Can this work? How would I replace a monitor cable for a Envision MN 1556 ? My cable is part of the monitor which is old but running short on cash only willing to spend 10 bucks or so. I would love new monitor but can't afford one. Has anyone taken the case off an Envision monitor and noticed if the cable can be removed? I am also willing to splice the cable but I don't know how fragile the insides are (like fiber optics) Can you splice monitor cables? are they just like reguler little wires inside? Basically how does one go about cheaply fixing a monitor with a week cable that cannot be removed from the outside?

Google search for "replacement monitor cable" or "vga cable".

Look around. Maybe you can find a place with tech support that can help you if you buy it from them.

I do not know how difficult it is, but I would say do not attempt it if you are not prepared to lose the monitor (and definitely ask about safety).

Well thanks for your help people.

Seeing that the problem is more likely with the monitor, I have bought a 21" off eBay for £50 which now works gr8 :)

I called envision and they said that the replacement cable for my monitor would be 15 dollars (not bad) plus 9 dollars (STEEP) shipping and handeling. What kind of company charges 9 dollars to ship a wire! Well I asked them how hard it is to replace the cable once it arrives and they said that it is really a simple procecess of unplugging the monitor for 24 hours and then opening the case being careful not to touch anything but the VGA cable. Then just unplug that one and pop the other one in and put the monitor back together. Thanks for the replies I appreciate them! WARNING: I had to buy a specialy made cable and that proccess only works for a few monitors. DONT DO THIS IF YOU DON'T CALL TECH SUPPORT FIRST AND CHECK IF IT WILL WORK. MONITORS ARE FULL OF HAZARDOUS ELECTRICITY AND MODIFYING THEM CAN KILLLLLLLLLLLLL KILL!!! YOU! DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK
