Blue screened, can't run disk checker, halngs

Specs: Windows XP
I have been getting a 'unstab;le hard drive' warning for a bit now, but when I check disk on boot up, it hangs and i gotta reboot again, for it to load up (skipping the diskchecker). Well, I rebooted tonight and got bluescreen, and tried to run the dskchecker from run command, on MAIN hard drive, it gave me warning saying it couldn't complete scan,. I scanned second hdd, and it is hanging on phase 2, and I can't close it. has been that way for half an hr :( II run the task manager and cannot see chkdisk in processors to close it what way either.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ty in advance

Use the diagnostic software available from the HDD manufacturer's website.

I didn't cancel the chkdisk when bootin up this time, and the first time it was loading up, after 2 hrs, i founds that the fat 32 hdd (back up) had 13298432 kb in bad.... and 'cannot write boot sector'. Pc restarted, chkdisk come up again, and after an hr of it scanning, pc booted up, and now my backup drive has gone from my pc, and devices shows only one hdd. Is it totally screwed now? ty (sorry if this shows twice
