Man I'm puzzled on this one!
Recently since changing the fan on my cpu I've been getting blue screens uin xp. First it appeared to be software conflict or a virus. Recently I feel it's hardware based.
Maybe I've knocked something. The fan run perfect and I'm convinced it has nothing to do with this problem.
Here are the errors of the blue screen death

irq_not_less_ or equal

(my sound card and modem shared the same irq at that time, i cudn't change the settings. It cud refer to that but i don't know)

then

PFN_LIST CORRUPT

(this happened while i was on xp)

PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGED AREA

(this happened as i selected to log into xp)

I also win 98 on my system. I don't seem to get blue screens here but my floppy disk is now recognised as a 5 inch disk!

I think my CMOS memory might be going or
sdram memory slots are damaged or general motherboard damage. Can anyone help me!

what do those errors mean where can i search to fnd out? google doesn't help
IS IT HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE do you reckon?
anyone had the same errors? please help I'm going insane

Hi Chaft,

Check out the link below. Someone else was receiving the same 3 errors messages that you are and it turned out to be bad RAM.

In your situation because you were just in the case when the problem occurred I would also check to make sure the IDE cables are not blocking air flow to the RAM modules causing them to overheat.

Same errors as you

HTH

Best Regards,
Mesich

I got that error message once before using Win. XP home. It was also accompanied with a physical memmory dump. I think one of my O.S. drives got partially overwritten, Or registry was corrupt,I'm not real sure. I deleted the O.S and reinstalled it. That happened to me about 9 months ago and no hick up since. You might wanna try that. Back up your files you want to keep first. Because they will be gone once you do this. I know it's a pain, but for whatever reason it worked. Good luck!

Thanks for your replies but now things are worse. I am now getting

a bad caller pool

error

also
Xp can't work out the time on the system

and so that to me suggests motherboard memory
as i've tried three slots of sdram and same problems occur. It could be the CMOS Battery i suppose. any more ideas?

I've got another suggestion:
I used to get the same problem on my comp same IRQ not less or equal thing going on, then when I got a new PSU, the problem went away

could it be that maybe the problem is due to the fact that the fan you plugged in draws more power than ur PSU can handle?
also make sure if you have a P4 mobo to plug in the 12V power cable thing, sometimes that can cause the problem as well

also, try unplugging your fan for a while to see if the message continues to popup

just my two cents, im propobly wrong on this, but whatever, worth a try
