I have a computer Compaq Presario with Windows ME, Ram 320 Mb, Hard Disk Maxtor 20 Gb, Processor
Intel Celeron 700 Mhz and Adsl Internet connection.
I have surfed the Web for two years without any Antivirus installed and recently my computer
has been infected by many Virus, dialer and worms; I realized that because many programs on
my computer ceased to function and then the computer has began to blocks after 10 minutes of
activity (the computer blocks and no actiivity is more possibile; is only possible to
disconnect the electric inlet and then to restart the computer).
After restartig the problem appears identical.
I have installed an Antivirus (Avast) that detects a lot of infections but can't eliminate
them because the computer blocks before the antivirus completes tha scansion.
Then I have formatted all and reinstalled Windows Me, but also if so the system is free
the computer blocks after few minutes.
Is it possible that one of the viruses that had infected the computer has changed some
parameters of the BIOS causing the block of the system also now that Windows has been
reinstalled?
What can I do to resolve the problem ?
What can I do now ?
I await as soon as possible Your answer.
Thanks.
Mauro.

a reformat, does not necessarily remove all viruses. The best way to remove all viruses is to download a program that will write all 0's to the HD. This will put the HD to a state as if it were bought brand new. If you have a maxtor or WD HD, you can get the 0 writing software right at their download sites.
When all else fails beat the $%!* out of it!!!

Download Kill Disk, and from now on install and update your AV software as often possible, The two year scenario might make you think your PC is immune, the truth is you just got lucky.
