My computer is a Toshiba Portege 7010CT always run on a/c power. What happens is that if I let it sit without doing anything after about 10 minutes the screen goes blank. The computer is still on but the screen is dead. If I do a double c/a/d the computer reboots but the screen is still blank. The only way to get the screen to work again is powerdown/powerup. I have checked my power settings and have set as "always on" and hibernation is disabled. I can find nothing that should be killing the display after a certain amount of time. As long as I am active on the computer it will run for hours with no problem.

I had a problem with a computer doing that to me once. I finally solved my problem by starting up my computer in SAFE MODE and after the desktop loaded it gave me the message "It appears your computer goes into a deep hibernation. Do you wish to stop this from happening? Yes or No." After I chose yes, I never had a problem with doing that again. It is something with the windows 98 OS. Some people have struggled with this for months until it finally gives up the ghost. Or so I have read. There is some info in Microsoft's knowledge base that discusses this phenomenon.

I started the computer in safe mode but didn't get the message you mentioned. However, in the Toshiba power settings troubleshooting section I did find the option to disable PCI sleep mode. I checked that, will try it a few days and let you know what happens. Thanks for the info.
