Blank Screen on booting and takes m

January 18, 2009 at 19:23:31
Specs: Windows XP Pro Sp2/Debian, 512MB
I am using a pc with intel pc with Windows XP and Linux installed in it.

Two weeks before, It started to show a black screen when switched on. It boots to windows by default. The desktop is displayed after a long time.

If I restart the computer, after showing the motherboard welcome screen a new screen is displayed which checks for memory and then it shows it me the screen to select OS.

Before this problem started it has showed "CMOS checksum error" while booting.

Can you please tell me the fix?

I tested my battery. Battery is ok. Since I
use updated antivirus and scan my system
frequently, virus infection is not possible.
How can I diagnose what the problem is?
