I have Black vertical bars on the screen of my Fujitsu Amilo L7320 laptop. The laptop posts and boots up normally. Bars also on bios screen. graphics are perfect through an external monitor. What is the cause? Is it the inverter perhaps or maybe the motherboard to screen cable? Anyone know the answer?

It's not the inverter if the backlight is on (ie: you can see anything at all). It's most likely the LCD panel, with a possibility of bad cable.

To get a better idea of which one it might be, think of how you use the laptop - if you put stuff on top of the laptop when the screen is closed, or squish it in a tight notebook bag or backpack with the AC adapter on top and all sorts of books, etc.then it's likely the screen.

If you open/close the screen lots (3-10 times a day), it might be the cable. See if opening/closing makes a difference with the line patterns. If not, it goes back to a problem with the screen and it needs to be replaced.

Ok many thanks. So I won't change the inverter. I do have a spare screen for this model which is pretty ok apart from a small crack. But you can see most of the desktop with it and the graphics are pretty ok.I will remove the lcd panel and put this spare one in and connect it. That may tell me whether or not it is the cable or the lcd panel. I prefer to do that as i don't want to dismantle the laptop as this model is a pain in the arse to dismantle.
Thanks for your time and effort.
